School Streets and Urban Trees

Problem

Improving school-area streets can support safer travel while affecting existing trees and the surrounding environment. Design choices need to consider both engineering and ecological conditions.

Context

The public hearing took place on 12 July 2024 with councilors, schools, city departments, experts, and civic groups.

My Role

My work included issue research, stakeholder communication, and hearing coordination. Shared hosting and team outcomes are not attributed to me individually.

Constraints

School travel safety, accessible routes, tree-root protection, and construction constraints must be considered together. The hearing record alone does not show that a specific design was later adopted.

Approach

The forum placed street engineering and tree protection in one discussion, using expert examples and participant input to compare possible design options.

System

Outcome

The minutes preserve views from schools, experts, civic groups, and city departments for further design discussion. No claim is made that the resulting works changed.

A public hearing on 9 September 2025 examined how an integrated entry point could help residents find and use public services, alongside privacy, accountability, and service governance. I contributed to issue research and hearing preparation.
